Rio Cangrejal, Honduras Photos
The Rio Cangrejal is a Class III-V whitewater river on the north coast of Honduras, on the Atlantic side of the country. The river was originally named for the crabs that once swarmed along its mouth, but today factories have poluted the river sufficiently that not even the crabs survive. Nevertheless the river is home to some of the best rapids in Central America. The river borders the Pico Bonito National Park
In the pictures below the Cangrejal appears muddy brown in color due to heavy rain. Generally it is a more pleasant green color. The river is susceptible to rapid rising with rain.
